upright & mobile for augustThere's a beautiful breeze off the lake today, and the dogs and I went for a walk before things heated up. It's 3½ weeks since my fall, and I'm pretty much back to full mobility, and able to walk the dogs again this week. That feels like a big deal. When something happens in a split second, what follows is a full inventory of body parts. What can I move? Anything I can't? And fingers crossed the next few days won't expose more. Turns out there's a lot going on when we begin to notice. Even brushing my teeth became a weight-shifting event, foot to foot. One thing that's clear: mobility is king... or queen, in this case... and balance is close behind. Why mobility? Because it's what helps us move comfortably through everyday life. We bend, reach, turn, walk, climb stairs, and get up off the floor. That's independence. When one area isn't moving well, something else has to compensate, and that's where problems can begin. And balance? Every single step we take is a balancing act. We just don't think much about it until something challenges it. Walking the dogs again means my whole system of movement is coming back online, one step at a time. If you've ever had to consider every movement you make, you understand why it's our lifeline to living. So here's my nudge to you: don't wait for a fall to pay attention to yours. I'll be back for my August classes in a couple of weeks: Gentle Movement Live on Wednesday, August 12th & 19th, 9–10 am, and Savour Slow Somatics Online on Thursday, August 13th & 20th, 9:15–10:15 am (audio recording available for 10 days). The Online Writing Circle has filled up for August, but there's still time to sign up for the September 2nd class, just a reminder. Regular classes resume in October, with more details to come. One note for my creative makers & knitting friends— if your hands, neck, shoulders, or back are grumbling, Clinical Somatic Education 1:1 sessions are always available, virtual or live. We can deal with what's going on now, so you're in good shape for fall creativity. Gena and I are organizing a Fall Somatic Movement Teachers Hub for the last weekend of October. Just dialing in some details. If you're also a clinical hands-on practitioner (CSE), we're considering an additional day prior to the weekend workshop for practice and reset.
